For my 23rd birthday, Vic (my wife) and I decided to spend the weekend in Greenport, NY which is out on the north fork of Long Island and about a two-hour drive from us. We stayed at a small but nice hotel with a great view of the night sky above a large field out back. It's always a shock seeing so many stars in the sky having been raised in Queens, NY. That's not to say I haven't seen plenty of stars but they never seem to get old. Next door to the hotel there was a lavender field which was one of the things we planned on visiting while there. It looked beautiful from a distance and smelled even better. There were people wandering through the paths between the lavender seemingly having a great time. As Vic and I got closer, I started to notice there were bees covering nearly every inch of the field as they were attracted to the pollen the lavender gave off. I don't have an issue with most insects or animals for that matter but there's something about bees that frightens me. So as we walked I did all that I could to avoid disturb the bees and drawing their attention to me. I don't think they were aggressive bees and they didn't seem to be bothering anyone else but that didn't stop me from flinching every time one flew by. All that to say, I hope you have a slightly greater appreciation for these images as it took a lot of guts for me to make them and I hope I never have the misfortune of going to another lavender field.
